VJ Camp Crete 2006 Review

Ok – how do I start?

It took place in the first week of July 2006, so this is more then 2 weeks away.

In this past 2 weeks we sorted 300 digital images and recovered from
a deep post camp/vacation/workshop/networking depression.

Why?

VJ Camp Crete 2006
The entrance to the Liquid Sky..

Because from the 2nd to the 9th of July we had the pleasure to participate in the international VJ camp on Crete (Greece) in the Monte Christo (artist apartments), also known as Liquid Sky near Agia Pelagia (near Heraklion).

The VJ Camp was originally initiated by Eva and Gery from eye!con (Vienna) and Bandbreite e.v. (Cologne).

The pool view from the apartment area!

And all we can say is – it was fantastic, beautiful, inspiring and motivating.

The hot greek sun, refreshed by an always blowing and pleasing wind,
many nice (mostly VJ) people and a cozy place to stay.

Don’t forget the greek cuisine and the beverages ;o) (Rakiiiii).

Ahhhhh - drinks!
We never ran dry..

The Monte Christo is run by Ingmar (aka Dr. Walker) and Wolfgang (aka Wulfmanson), who are two pearls on the harsh island of crete, where the Vendetta is still daily routine and the Mafia makes (some of) the rules.

They are also great and known musicians, who work together since decades and come out of the cologne electronic scene. We really enjoyed their music and their musical taste 24/7. Ingmar actually delighted us one night with an electrifying live set, played on his KORG ElekTribe SX (Asbest!). Priceless musical support!

Nights over Agia Pelagia
From dusk till dawn..

It was the perfect combination of working on projects, exchanging knowledge and ideas with other VJs, chatting with people, relaxing, drinking, eating and partying.

A very interesting point (from a VJs perspective) were the different ways to work on new footage and the live performances. Also because a wide variaty of hardware and live software was represented (Modul8, Resolume, Arkaos, Textmachine3D and even WinAmp), so there was a vital exchange of working methods and approaches.

Screens
Visuals – all night long, seven days..

So we all had a wondefull time and I am sure most of us will be there again in the first 2 weeks of July 2007.

If you want to see more images from there, especially those with more people on it, please have a look on decollagetv@Flickr! We just don’t want to flood our blog with too many pictures.

Eva and Ingmar also have setup a MySpace space for the VJ Camp here (for the from now on growing community) and we followed there.

Oh – and did I mention the dogs?

Daaaawgz
You shouldn’t be afraid of big dawgz, cuz there’s no need to!
